Second Lieutenant Theodore Carlos Hoidge of 56 Squadron RFC in the cockpit of an early production SE5, A4862 at London, Colney Aerodrome prior to their posting to France in early April 1917. This aircraft hasn't yet been modified and appears as it came from the factory. The cockpit canopy was later removed (they were intensely disliked by the pilots) and the seats lowered.(Mrs. Theodore Hoidge)
