Fokker Dr.I triplanes of Jagdstaffel 12 on the flight line at the unit's airfield in Toulis, France, in March 1918. The aircraft in the foreground is Dr.I 436/17. The aircraft at the far left is Hauptmann Adolf Ritter von Tutschek's Dr.I 404/17, the aircraft in which he lost his life on March 15, 1918. The word Ritter in his name is a title of Knighthood (Ritter meaning knight) bestowed on January 25, 1916 when he received the Military Max-Joseph Order for his exploits during a 17 day stand against superior numbers near Petrilow while serving as a young officer in the infantry.
